Inside The Project

Custom Design Plan – Waterfront Home Renovation in Warren RI

Creating Vibrant, Livable Family Spaces

Our clients purchased a stunning waterfront home in Warren, RI to be closer to family after relocating from the south. Upon realizing the house’s need for extensive renovations, they promptly reached out to Cedar House. Impressed by our work on a previous renovation project for their adult children, they entrusted us with creating a renovation and design plan that perfectly aligned with their vision and needs.

Transformation to a Modern and Functional Space

The outdated kitchen, segmented from the family room, required a fresh look and improved functionality. The powder room, mudroom, entry, and stairway were also in dire need of updates for both aesthetics and safety. By opening up the wall between the family room and kitchen, we created a spacious, inviting cook’s kitchen that facilitates entertaining and gathering. The mudroom and powder room were transformed into modern, functional spaces suited for everyday use. The laundry room underwent a refreshing transformation, going from outdated to open and inviting.

Hardwood Flooring + Storage Built-Ins

To enhance the flow throughout the home, we replaced dated tile with hardwood flooring, extending from the entry to the kitchen and mudroom. The entry and stairway received a stunning update, ensuring compliance with safety regulations. In both the kitchen and family room, we incorporated built-ins for storage and everyday convenience, while also updating the fireplaces in both the family and living rooms.
Our partnership with Westcott Building for this project was truly remarkable, from beginning to end! The team and their trade partners demonstrated the utmost professionalism, collaboration, and efficiency. Both the homeowners and the Cedar House Team cherished our collective collaboration and eagerly anticipate working together in the near future.

The kitchen is truly the heart of this home boasting a spacious 10-foot by 5-foot island, offering mesmerizing water views. It is complemented by comfortable wrap-around seating, a convenient prep sink, and generous work space, ensuring an optimal culinary experience. The custom cabinetry, meticulously designed by the Cedar House Team and expertly crafted by Wescott Building in Barrington, RI, showcases exquisite finishes in Farrow & Ball Stone Blue, and Blackend paired with natural Walnut. The combination of these three finishes creates a layered and curated aesthetic, elevating the overall look and feel. We used quartz stone to finish the backsplash and hood for a sleek look that cleans easily for this well-used kitchen.

Sink Wall with Stunning Views

Home Renovation Design

We transformed the outdated layout, optimizing every inch of space to create a functional and spacious kitchen. It features a sink wall with stunning water views, a dream-worthy stove, oven, and prep area, as well as a beverage bar and pantry wall. Each element serves its distinct purpose, making it a culinary haven.

To ensure a seamless flow and maximize storage, we extended the Stone Blue and Walnut cabinetry from the kitchen into the mudroom. This strategic design choice not only enhances the overall aesthetic but also provides a practical solution for organizing and storing belongings. The flooring in the mudroom seamlessly transitions into the powder room, where you’ll find a beautifully crafted floating stone vanity that matches the quartz used in the kitchen. This cohesive design adds a touch of elegance and continuity to the overall aesthetic.

Custom Fireplace Mantle Installation

The family room has been opened up to the kitchen, creating a spacious great room that enhances everyday living. We have preserved the prominent stone fireplace while elevating its appeal with a sleek black wood-look stone mantle. This new design allows for the installation of the mantle closer to the firebox, ensuring optimal viewing comfort while watching TV. Additionally, the outdated built-ins on either side of the fireplace have been replaced with new custom-built units, offering ample storage and brightening up this previously dark-paneled room.

We took the opportunity to revamp the front entry staircase, ensuring safety for our clients and their visiting grandchildren. The outdated railings, which did not meet current code requirements, were replaced with stunning black metal horseshoe balusters and natural oak hand railings. The craftsmanship on display is truly remarkable.
