Furnishings That Last
Attending High Point Furniture Market annually is an incredible experience for Julie and I – we were able to draw inspiration from some of our favorite vendors and gather ideas on beautiful furnishings that we can use for our clients. It was truly a pleasure to be surrounded by so much creativity, innovation and our other design friends from across the country,.
We consolidated our top tips on selecting furnishings that last. From color schemes and fabrics to materials like wood or metal, our insights will ensure your pieces stay vibrant no matter what is trending! With our advice, you’ll be able to confidently make furnishing decisions that embrace long-term value.
Depending on your project scope, you can obtain plans in a few different ways. If you are renovating a small bathroom or kitchen, your builder may have a local kitchen and bath showroom that has designers you can work with. If you are renovating a larger space or adding an addition, you can hire an architect and/or an interior designer. Many people do not realize that interior designers have the capability to create construction plans with on-staff experts or the support of third-party architects or structural engineers.
Textiles
Textiles play a crucial role in interior design, as they have the power to transform a space and create a unique and personalized look in your home. From curtains and upholstery to throw pillows and rugs, textiles provide endless possibilities for adding color, texture, and pattern to a room. Not only do they add aesthetic value, but they also serve functional purposes, such as providing warmth and sound insulation.
When selecting textiles for your home, consider your style and the overall design aesthetic, as well as the practical functions they will serve. Whether you opt for bold and dramatic prints or soft and cozy textures, incorporating textiles into your interior design scheme is an easy and effective way to elevate your home decor.

Fabrics
When it comes to selecting fabrics for your furnishings, there are a variety of options available, each with its distinct advantages and drawbacks. Cotton is a popular choice due to its soft and breathable nature, but it tends to wrinkle easily and can easily become stained. Linen is another natural option that is highly durable and absorbent but can be difficult to maintain and prone to wrinkling.
Wool is a classic choice that is known for its warmth and longevity, though it can be a bit scratchy and may require special cleaning. Finally, polyester is an affordable and easy-to-care-for option, but it is not as breathable as natural fibers and may not hold up as well over time. By understanding the pros and cons of each type of fabric, you can make an informed decision that meets both your aesthetic and practical needs.
Mixing patterns, textures, colors, and materials can seem daunting, but with the right approach, it can lead to a beautifully curated space. The key is to start with a neutral base and then layer on the different elements. For patterns, try mixing larger prints with smaller ones, or mixing different types of patterns such as florals with stripes. When it comes to textures, look for materials that have different feels such as a plush velvet alongside a sleek leather. And don’t be afraid to mix metals or woods for a truly eclectic style. Keep in mind that quality is important, invest in high-quality pieces that will last and stand the test of time. With these tips, you will be able to create a stylish and inviting space that is uniquely your own.
Furnishing
When it comes to furnishing your home, there are many different styles to choose from. From traditional to modern, each style has its unique look and feel. Traditional styles often feature classic, elegant pieces with intricate detailing, while modern designs tend to be more simplistic and sleek. When selecting a furnishing style, it’s important to consider your lifestyle and the space you’re furnishing. If you enjoy hosting dinner parties and entertaining guests, a traditional style might be a good fit for you. On the other hand, if you prefer a minimalist and clutter-free space, a modern design might better suit your needs. Ultimately, the key is to choose a style that reflects your taste and enhances your home’s functionality and livability.
Decorating
When decorating your home, achieving the perfect balance between comfort and aesthetics can be tricky. One piece of advice is to focus your spending on items that are both functional and visually appealing. Invest in quality furniture, such as a comfortable sofa, a sturdy dining table, and a durable bed frame. These pieces will get plenty of use and should last for years to come.
As for items you want to last, consider durable materials such as leather, wool, and linen. When it comes to decorating accents, it’s best to choose less expensive items, such as pillows, throws, and wall decor. These items can be easily swapped out as your tastes change over time. By focusing your spending on key pieces for both function and longevity and being selective with decorative accents, you can achieve a comfortable yet stylish space.
If you’re looking to elevate your living space to the next level of luxury, investing in quality items is an absolute must. Don’t be tempted by lower-quality pieces just because they’re affordable – instead, take the time to carefully select decor, furnishings, and accessories that will truly stand the test of time. Opt for well-built pieces made with high-quality materials, and seek out genuine and reliable brands that are known for their craftsmanship.
And remember, creating a sophisticated and comfortable environment takes planning – don’t rush the process! With patience and careful consideration, you’ll be able to create a timeless space that exudes elegance and function for years to come.
