Project Reveal: Cedar Point Kitchen Remodel
Our amazing clients (now friends) bought a beautiful home in Barrington, RI, that needed a kitchen remodel. We came up with a plan that included a moderate layout tweak, paint (top to bottom), stair railing refresh, hardwood refinishing, furnishings, window treatments and accessories. Oh, and there were only 8 weeks until they needed to move into their home. We love a challenge and helping good people. As a full service interior design firm we have amazing partners and knew we could help our new clients make decisions that would would benefit their budget and timeline, so we jumped in head first!
Unlikely Timeline
A little back story – our Cedar Point clients reached out to us in February 2021 with a unique situation during a pandemic. They were relocating from the south and living in an Airbnb with 2 kiddos (with another on the way!) as well as 2 fur babies. Add to the mix closing on their new home at the end of March and moving into their new home 2 weeks later… big exhale!
If we got this call today, we would have to say “We are sorry but we cannot achieve this objective. We can help rethink your plan, but no way can we have your design, selections and materials here in 6 weeks, nor can we find anyone to come into your home this quickly.” Looking back I am still shocked we were able to make this happen! We succeeded because of our great partners, a lot of work, and many late nights. As we approached the finish line, one of our favorite contractors who helped us through this project told me “E, never again”. Yikes, I agree B, I agree!
The Kitchen Remodel Plan
We created a tight schedule in partnership with our trade partners and took this tuscan kitchen and well loved and lived in house and turned it into the sophisticated coastal New England home our clients were looking for.
The first 3 weeks were dedicated to onboarding, planning, scheduling, concepts and reconfiguring the kitchen island. We showed 3 kitchen concepts and we were so happy they gravitated to the “Modern French Country” concept because it felt fresh, modern and sophisticated. We truly wanted to steer clear of trend and go for something evergreen and classic for this growing family.
Production Mode
Three weeks prior to start date there was one on-site meeting for measurements and then we went into procurement mode.
We wanted to brighten and lighten up the heaviness of these gorgeous custom cabinets and refresh the kitchen layout for a growing family. During the 2 week (turned 3 week) refresh, every room got a fresh coat of paint from top to bottom and the floors were refinished in a rich warm Provincial stain. Our trade partners knocked it out of the park with this one!
Classic Coatings – Anthony and his team painted all 3 floors including the finished basement, main living space, and second floor. Everything was refinished including ceilings, walls, trim, built-ins and fireplace.
Fine Finish Painting – Vlad took this dark tuscan kitchen to Modern French Country with Sherwin Williams Acacia Haze lower cabinets and Uppers in Sherwin Williams Snowbound.
B Hughes Builders – Brian’s his team and trade partners made our island design a reality with new cabinets, legs and building the Island that truly changed this kitchen layout. Not to mention the floor refinishing, basement carpet installation and the electrical and plumbing changes at the final hour!
Jason from Douglas Lumber worked some major miracles to get us cabinetry in under 12-16 weeks, which was the timeline that current supply schedules were estimating.
We kept the perimeter cabinets, they were custom, in great condition, beautiful and high quality. Due to the timing we ordered 2 new cabinets, 2 island legs and a wine fridge to create the new island. Custom cabinet refinishing was handled by Vlad. New countertops and backsplash in Misterio Quartz enhanced the beauty of this kitchen. Layering in the pendant lights and brass hardware and fixtures added touches of fun and elegance.
We are beyond thrilled with the end result of this kitchen design, our client’s happiness in their home, and the wonderful memories they will create with their kiddos at this kitchen island. We look forward to the latest project with these same clients as we head into 2022. Stay tuned for the Cedar Point Addition and follow us on Instagram to see live updates!
