Our Firm

How it all began...

In 2011, Erika & Julie met in their corporate jobs and bonded over their similarities; yoga-loving working moms of 2 year old boys, and have been as close as sisters since. From the beginning the pair have been remodeling and customizing their own homes using the other as a design resource. There have been many family evenings with Erika & Julie laying out Julie’s kitchen or Erika’s entire second floor over wine.

As co-founders of Cedar House Design Collective, these two have a deep appreciation for family and everything coastal Rhode Island has to offer. These entrepreneurs are also avid real estate investors, partnering on commercial and residential investments from RI to Texas.  Home improvement ROI and the personal value of a family home are integral to every. Cedar House Design Collective project.

Integrator

Julie Sanfilippo

Head of Technical Design & Tactical Planning

Cedar House co-founder Julie Sanfilippo has been living in New England for over two decades. For more than half of that time she has been living in Rhode Island with her husband Dan, two kiddos Jake and Ella along with their lovable pointer mix Buddy, new pup Dewey and their 6 chickens.  Julie loves the coastal charm of the ocean state and is continuously improving on her historical Barrington farmhouse circa, 1874.

With a degree in Industrial Design and continued education from Yale and Rhode Island School of Design, Julie is always thoughtful in her design approach. She knows that beauty is only one piece of the puzzle, being a natural problem solver, Julie’s attention to detail and project scope is second to none. These values have led her on a path from designing exhibits at the Boston Aquarium to being Design Director at Hasbro Inc., leading many large projects and a creative team.

Today, Julie leads Technical Design and Tactical Planning for Cedar House, managing timelines, client project ROI, contractor communication and project execution. She takes Cedar House clients from onboarding through layout planning. Once the creative vision is set Julie will also make sure all the details align and the contractors have what they need to bring each project to the finish line. She wants every detail to be perfect.

Julie loves travel and planning every detail for her family trips. Julie and her family love to ski in the winter and enjoy the RI beaches in the summer months. She also enjoys yoga with Erika, gardening and is a self proclaimed plant-addict. An avid learner, Julie is always researching investment opportunities, taking in as much information from podcasts, books and their collective network of investors.

Visionary

Erika Twohig

Head of Creative Design & Strategic Planning

A Rhode Island native, Cedar House co-founder Erika Twohig lives in Barrington with her husband, two kids Rylan and Isla, as well as their white boxer Lady Dallas..  Erika’s entrepreneurial spirit is driven by  generations of family small businesses while her love for interiors has been an innate passion since childhood.  Erika’s creativity is fueled by the classic elegance of the Rhode Island coastline and is continuously planning updates for her family’s garrison colonial home.

Erika is a business graduate from Bryant University (RI) and began her career working with large brands like Elizabeth Arden and Titleist then managing large brand portfolios and marketing budgets at Hasbro, Inc. Being a working mom of two, Erika saw her home as a sanctuary and customized her family home for both entertaining and thoughtful everyday living.  Many home improvement projects later, and seeing a gap in creative solutions for busy professional families, Erika & Julie (over a glass of wine) created Pickle & Board, now Cedar House Design Collective.

As head of Creative Design and Strategic Planning for Cedar House, Erika  leads the creative vision for each client project as well as material sourcing, project budgets and marketing.  Partnering closely with Julie to integrate each design element into the executable plans. From creative vision, design development through final styling, Erika & Julie will unlock the unique potential of each client’s family home with elevated curated design.

Coming from a large Rhode Island family, Erika loves to entertain and food is her love language.  Her creativity can also be seen in the kitchen whipping up a 15 minute meal  or a tasty cocktail with Julie and their husbands as her taste testers.  Erika’s real estate passion, with over a decade of real estate investing experience, paired with Julie’s tenacious research and drive, have created amazing opportunities for investment. Both love to invest in their local community with their time and investments. Depending on the season, Erika and her family can be found enjoying everything New England has to offer from RI beaches, apple orchards, hiking, sledding and gardening.
